The Story
The history behind the coin.
An extraordinary Latin American rarity: the 1889 Honduras Gold Peso had a mintage of just 5 coins, of which only 3 are known to have been certified - this PCGS example and two graded by NGC.
The obverse features the allegorical Liberty bust with "15 DE SETIEMBRE DE 1821 · CENTRO AMERICA," commemorating Central American independence from Spain. The reverse carries the Honduran national arms - the radiant triangle, volcanoes, and the UNION banner above PAZ PROGRESO I LIBERTAD - with UN PESO and the .900 fineness mark.
Graded UNC Details (Cleaned) by PCGS, but in our opinion the surfaces and strike support an MS-61 designation.
